James Loney Arrested For Driving Under the Influence
While most of the focus is on the Angels opening up the vault for Albert Pujols, the Dodgers made news today with the announcement that James Loney was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Maserati was involved in an accident with several cars on the 101 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place November 14, 2011 about 6:12 p.m. on the 101 just west of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks. The CHP arrested Loney and took him to Sherman Oaks Hospital for a blood test.
The CHP officer that first contacted Loney wrote in his report that Loney displayed "objective symptoms of being intoxicated or being under the influence of something." This means the cop claims Loney's eyes were Bloodshot/watery, his gait was unsteady, and his speech was slurred. From this statement, you can rule out alcohol was involved and the cops are hoping the blood seized from Mr. Loney will reveal a drug. If so, the LA City Attorney's Office will file one count of driving under the influence of drugs - a violation of vehicle code section 23152 (a), assuming there were no injuries.
A person close to Loney said tests for drugs and alcohol returned negative and that Loney has apologized for the incident.
The CHP, however, said no results were available yet from a blood sample taken from Loney by officers.
