Cops Arrest Teens In Orange County Stealing from Cars
The Daily Pilot reports a string of car
thefts took place Saturday morning, July 16, 2011 by two local teenagers in Orange County, California.
Police said at just before 3 a.m., a 16-year-old Costa Mesa boy and an 18-year-old were arrested by officers after roaming eastside Costa Mesa neighborhoods looking for unlocked cars.
Each kid could receive a different punishment for the same crime because one will be sent to juvenile court and the other to adult court based on their age.
The pair allegedly got into at least five unlocked cars around Fairway Drive and Orange Avenue, stealing prescription medicines, sunglasses, iPods, cell phones and other personal items.
The two were spotted when a resident was awakened by barking dogs and his car alarm going off. The resident saw the teens walking away from his car and followed them, later witnessing them trying to get into another car, he said.
The witness called the cops and the two teens ran. They were arrested with the help of Huntington Beach's police helicopter.
Police say they found some stolen stuff on the two suspects. The cops say the teenagers probably threw away the other items before being arrested.
