Huntington Beach's New Sex Offender Restriction
The Huntington Beach Independent reports Huntington Beach Councilman Matthew Harper wants to ban
sex offenders from city parks and beaches.
Harper plans to present his proposal during Monday's Huntington Beach City Council meeting. Harper's idea sprouted soon after a similar county ordinance began requiring registered sex offenders to ask permission from the Orange County Sheriff's Department before going to county parks or beaches.
"Now Orange County has become a leader by passing a law creating safety zones for children in parks — because these public areas belong to children and families — not to registered sex offenders. It is crucial that the city of Huntington Beach do its part in extending this child safety zone to municipal parks and city beaches," Harper wrote in a statement.
