Sheriff Joe Arpaio Discovers Smugglers

We will take credit for the impeccable timing of yesterday's blog post about smuggling, transporting, and harboring aliens. As Reuters reports, 3 employees of tough-talking Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio were arrested Tuesday on charges they helped a drug and human smuggling organization from Mexico.

The infamous Maricopa County Sheriff Joe said one of his deputies and two county detention officers were among several arrested on Tuesday on charges of assisting in a criminal syndicate, illegal control of an enterprise, human smuggling, drug trafficking and money laundering.

Arpaio's deputy was once assigned to the sheriff's human smuggling unit and was cross-trained as a federal immigration agent, regularly smuggled loads of illegal immigrants, Arpaio now claims.
