California Criminal Law Penal Code Section 272
A parent or guardian commits a misdemeanor if he or she (a) intentionally or with (b) criminal negligence fails to perform a duty described below
and as a result contributes to the delinquency of the child.
It is misdemeanor to:
(1) Commit any act or fail to perform any duty, which act or omission causes, or tends to cause or encourage, any minor to come within the provisions of Welfare and Institutions Code Section 300 (dependent), 601 (status offender), or 602 (delinquent), or which contributes to the minor coming within those provisions; or
(2) By any act or omission, threat, command, or persuasion, induce or endeavor to induce any minor, ward, or dependent child of the juvenile court to:
(a) Fail or refuse to conform to a lawful order of the juvenile court; or
(b) Do any act, or follow any course of conduct, or live in a manner that would cause (or manifestly tend to cause) the minor, ward, or dependent child of the juvenile court to either become or remain a person within the provisions of Welfare and Institutions Code Section 300, 601, or 602.
